The ›Shepherd of Hermas‹, the well-known early Christian apocalyptic text, written in Greek in second century Rome, was translated twice into Latin between the second and fifth centuries AD. This contribution revisits and calls into question two issues, which had seemed settled, namely the date of the first translation and the relevance of the Latin version for the proposal that the Shepherd was, initially, circulated as two books.
